Computer Tip #2: The Usage and User?

So you have already made up your mind about the budget the next question is that how will you be using your Desktop Computer. This would be one of the important factors to consider in Buying a Desktop Computer. If you would ask computer sales man they would simply reply with those computer jargon that a simple people would not really understand and end up nodding and buying a computer that would be more than they need. That is okay if your budget is flexible but what if you have a tight budget. The Computer Tip #2 will show you the different kind of usage and user. I will also give some sample specification for each kind of User.

Here are some kind of User:

User #1: The Student / Home User - A student usually goes for research works, term papers and some minor music and video. Well I should know since I have been a student before but this time a student user comes in variety well that depends on what are they studying. Let us focus on a simple student. Well initially what does a student want for his Desktop Computer. Usually they need a medium range of speed and space for their computer. Which they can work for their paper works. This would also apply for people that just goes online and browse that does not concern more download. This is also the most common users compared to those others.

Sample Specification:
  • Processor: 2 G Hz - 3.2 G Hz Dual Core (AMD or Intel)
  • Motherboard: Any Compatible MB for the Processor with built in Sound/Video/LAN
  • RAM: 512 MB - 1 GB
  • Video: Built in
  • Hard drive: 160 GB - 250 GB
  • Sound: Built in
  • Monitor: 17" Flat or FPD
  • Optical Drive: Dual Layer DVD R/W Optical Drive
  • Keyboard: Ergonomic Keyboard
  • Mouse: Optical Mouse
  • Speaker: 2.0 or 2.1 speaker

User #2: The Music, Photo and Video Lover/Maker - A Music, Photo and Video Lover/Maker are those people that really loves music, photos and video that they would like to create , download and store music, photos and videos to their computers. Usually this type of user needs a medium to high range resources and spaces. You will see the difference in memory, hard drive, video with regards to User #1 but in some points I could say they are the same. You will also notice on the sample specs below is the addition of the TV Tuner which they use to record and capture videos from TV or camcorders.

Sample Specification:
  • Processor: 2 G Hz - 3.2 G Hz Dual Core (AMD or Intel)
  • Motherboard: Any Compatible MB for the Processor with built in Sound/Video/LAN
  • RAM: 1 GB - 2 GB
  • Video: Could use the Built in video or a medium range video card
  • Hard drive: 250 GB - 500 GB
  • Sound: Could use the Built in sound or a medium range sound card
  • TV Tuner/Capture Card: Yes
  • Monitor: 21" - 32" FPD or HDTV
  • Optical Drive: Dual Layer DVD R/W Optical Drive
  • Keyboard: Ergonomic Keyboard
  • Mouse: Optical Mouse
  • Speaker: 2.1 to 7.1 speaker

User #3: The Gamer - Well I think this is the last and the one that needs a high end computer. This type of user usually the one that has the highest specification and those person that keeps on upgrading or maxing out there computer.

Sample Specification:
  • Processor: 2 G Hz - 3.2 G Hz Quad Core (AMD or Intel)
  • Motherboard: Any Compatible MB for the Processor with built in Sound/Video/LAN
  • RAM: 2 GB - Max
  • Video: High end video card
  • Hard drive: 500 GB to 1 TB
  • Sound: Could use the Built in sound or a medium range sound card
  • TV Tuner/Capture Card: Yes
  • Monitor: 21" - 32" FPD or HDTV
  • Optical Drive: Dual Layer DVD R/W Optical Drive
  • Keyboard: Ergonomic Keyboard
  • Mouse: Optical Mouse
  • Speaker: 2.1 to 7.1 speaker

I am planning to buy a laptop this May, which do you recommend. I've been reading reviews, user opinions and drawbacks of many brands and models but I think I may have been missing on some.
